FAQs

What is Nicomist.com?

Nicomist.com is a UK based company that is leading the way in smokeless cigarette technology across the globe. Our company, unlike many other electronic cigarette companies, is British owned and operated. We import our hardware, test each unit and package it here in the UK

What is a Personal Inhaler?

Personal Inhalers come under many different names. A few of the more common names are: Electronic Cigarettes, E-Cigarettes, E-Cigs, PV's, Personal Vaporisers, Atomisers.

They create a nicotine vapour that the user inhales. There is no combustion. It has no tobacco, no carcinogens, no tar, no second hand smoke and no odour. It also doesn’t have the approx' 4000 additional chemicals that are in traditional cigarettes.

 What is Propylene Glycol?

It is an organic compound, usually a faint sweet, odourless, and colourless clear viscous liquid that is hygroscopic (absorbs water from the air) and miscible (capable of mixing with water) with water, acetone and chloroform. It is the product that is found in nightclub smoke machines. It is considered non-toxic although there is one documented fatality due to Propylene Glycol being introduced into a human via IV. Propylene Glycol has been known to be an irritant in very few cases. It is considered a safe product by the FDA in the United States and has a broad range of applications including food, cosmetics, sun cream and chewing gum. It has a mild anti-biotic effect.

 Why not use Vegetable Glycerin?

It's simple. There have been two pharmaceutical tests conducted by Ryan and NJOY. These tests were based on Propylene Glycol. It's a man-made compound that has been tested under extreme heat (+180 °C) and found to be inert. To our knowledge these tests have not been carried out on Vegetable Glycerin to date.

What is a Cartridge? What is an Atomiser?

The Nicomist cartridge looks like a black coloured filter of a traditional cigarette. The cartridge contains the nicotine solution.  The cartridges come in different strengths Extra High, High, Medium, Low and Zero. The Atomiser is the element that heats the nicotine liquid to become a vapour.

How long does one cartridge last?

Contrary to what other providers may claim, we’re realistic about this. We've seen certain suppliers claim 15-20 cigarettes for one cartridge. This is untrue. The performance of the cartridge and vapour production would suffer with a cartridge that large. The user would also get mouthfuls of liquid. One Nicomist cartridge is roughly equivalent to seven conventional cigarettes. This is based on the assumption that a cigarette lasts on average between 13 - 15 puffs. When the cartridge is ready to be replaced or refilled, you will notice the vapour production diminish significantly. First check the battery is still charged. If it is, it's time to change the cartridge.

How long does one Atomiser last?

Our atomisers have been built to our specification and the microprocessor (switch) is programmed to protect the life of the heating element within the atomiser. You can expect approximately 6,000 – 10,000 inhalations from your atomiser. So, for a 20 per day smoker, that's just over a month. After which, it can often be cleaned and will work as new (please contact us for different cleaning methods), if that fails it will have to be replaced.

Is there any need to light Nicomist PV’s?

No Lighter or matches are required. It is completely electronic. It switches itself on when you inhale and switches itself off when you finish inhaling or after 5 seconds.

How long will the battery last before needing a recharge?

Again, we’re realistic about this. The battery life from one charge is a minimum of 4-5 hours for a very heavy user (typically 60+ conventional cigarettes per day). For a 20 per day user, you can expect a minimum of 6-9 hours from a single charge. We calculate these times based on 13-15 puffs for a conventional cigarette.

What does it mean when the LED light flashes?

During use, this means the battery has expired and needs charging. When first put on charge, the LED on the charger will be red. The LED remains red during charging and flashes green when the charging is complete.

What is the Battery Charging Time?

If using a mains charger, the charging time is 1 - 2 hours. If using the USB charger connected to your computer, charge time is approximately 30 - 60 minutes. This depends on the power output from your USB ports. Laptops generally are slower.

Where can I buy Nicomist products?

We are currently working with several high street retail outlets. However, the most economical place to buy our products is through this website

What is an E-Liquid

E-Liquid is the name given to the Nicotine solution found in the cartridges. It is possible and more economical to purchase the liquid and refill the cartridges yourself. We recommend you clean the fabric bundle in the filter with fresh water, dry, then drip the e-liquid onto the fabric bundle until full. There are also many more flavours and strengths available if you purchase the e-liquid.

What Flavours of E-Liquid are available

The cartridges we offer currently come in Menthol and Tobacco flavour with varying nicotine strengths. We also work with OMG Juice to offer E-Liquids in many different flavours. Please check our products pages for the available flavours and strengths.

Where can I use Nicomist Products?

Our opinion is that you should use Nicomist products in private. Non-smokers will not appreciate having what looks like smoke blown in their vicinity. Many websites claim you can smoke them in pubs and bars, even at work. We prefer the more subtle approach.

However, under the current UK legal framework governing conventional tobacco smoking (Health Act 2006), our products do not fall in this category and legally, you are entitled to use them anywhere you wish. We suggest smoking them within areas covered by the current legal framework for smoking tobacco.  Not only will you not antagonise non-smokers but you'll raise the awareness of your tobacco smoking friends to our products which is obviously an excellent thing. Having said all that.... It does feel pretty good having a very subtle puff on a trans-atlantic flight and not getting busted!

Our products are NOT to be used by?

Persons under the age of 18 or under the State-determined legal age to purchase tobacco products. People allergic to nicotine or any other ingredients within our nicotine solution. If a user has any adverse reaction they should desist from using our products. Pregnant and breastfeeding women must not use our products. People with heart disease or a history of heart disease should not use our products. All of our products must be kept out of reach of children and stored in the child-proof packaging we use for shipment.

International Orders

We ship all over the world; From Austria to the United States to Zambia. The Nicomist.com site has been built to handle multiple currencies with exchange rates that are updated daily. Many countries have banned the use of this kind of product. You should check with your local laws to evaluate the legality of our products.

 Are Personal Vapourisers Safe?

Nicomist cartridges contain water, propylene glycol, nicotine, natural flavorings and five inert food grade elements that individually constitute less than 3% of the compound. On balance we make the assumption that Nicomist products are safer than smoking tobacco cigarettes.  The cartridges and e-liquids have been tested for poisons and toxicity and none of the ingredients are currently considered cancer-causing agents. A full list of the e-liquid (nicotine solution) components is available upon request.

Nicotine is a known poison and just a few drops of pure, concentrated nicotine will kill an adult human. The concentration of nicotine in our cartridges and liquid is very small (maximum less than 3% of total) though still highly dangerous and potentially lethal if large quantities of the liquid is ingested. Our packaging is marked with the following warnings and must be adhered to:

  • Toxic if swallowed
  • Very Toxic in contact with skin
  • Keep locked up and out of the reach of children
  • In case of accident or if you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately

Packaging is fitted with:

  • Tactile warning device
  • Child resistant fastenings

As a general rule, this is still an untested product over time. You use our products at your own risk.

Facts about Nicotine and smoking (author Ciaran J Newman)

Nicotine is addictive, more addictive in fact than crack cocaine. This means that when you are hooked your system requires that a certain level of nicotine must be kept in your bloodstream or you start feeling uncomfortable. This happens when you pass your normal time for another hit.

You need this hit of nicotine to maintain your comfort level in the same way as a diabetic needs insulin. The difference is that when you quit smoking, your body will adjust to doing without nicotine and you can be comfortable without needing any further hits.

While you are hooked nicotine does a number of things to your system. Nicotine activates neurohormonal pathways, releasing acetylcholine, norepinephrine , dopamine, serotonin, vassopressin, beta-endorpin, growth hormone, and ACTH. But nicotine can do other things too: it may cause and delay the healing of peptic ulcers; it can cause liver or kidney damage and may interfere with your processing of insulin.
The high blood pressure caused by nicotine can also develop into malignant hypertension, the uncontrollable blood pressure that results in death. Discontinuing smoking does not directly reduce blood pressure, but is very important for people with hypertension because it reduces the risk of many dangerous outcomes of hypertension, such as stroke and heart attack.

Nicotine itself has not been shown to be a carcinogen, however in some tests on laboratory animals’ nicotine and its metabolites increased the incidences of tumors. Its presence may inhibit the natural ability of your body to get rid of cells with significant genetic damage before they turn cancerous.
Nicotine is an alkaloid found in the nightshade family of plants, predominantly in tobacco,  and in lower quantities in tomato, potato, eggplant (aubergine), and  green pepper. Nicotine constitutes 0.3 to 5% of the tobacco plant by dry weight, with biosynthesis taking place in the roots, and accumulates in the leaves. It is a potent nerve poisin and is included in many insecticides.
Only 60 mg of pure nicotine placed on the tongue would kill in minutes. If a child were to ingest a 15 mg. nicotine patch, they could die from heart failure or respiratory paralysis. The amounts of nicotine that are tolerated by adult smokers can produce symptoms of poisoning and could prove fatal in children. This could also happen to adults, but the dosage would have to be higher.
Nicotine is also in processed tobacco in one form or another. There are many studies conducted which link the use of tobacco to fatal cancers, heart attacks, diabetes, emphysema and angina. Smokers with coronary heart disease or a history of myocardial infarction and/or angina pectoris, serious cardiac arrhythmias, or vassopastic diseases (Buerger’s disease, Prinzmetal’s variant angina and Raynaud’s phenomena) should avoid nicotine.
Many types of tobacco products are consumed throughout the world but the most popular form of nicotine use is cigarette smoking. More than 5500 billion cigarettes are manufactured annually and there are 1,300 million smokers in the world.
Cigarette smoking, the main way we take nicotine into our bloodstream, is the single greatest cause of preventable diseases. In the United States alone, cigarette smoking causes over 1,000 deaths per day and is responsible for about one quarter of the cancer deaths and one third of all coronary heart disease. In the twenty-first century, tobacco, if unchecked, will lead to one billion deaths worldwide.

Cigarette smoking during pregnancy is associated with an increased risk of spontaneous abortion, low birth weight infants and perinatal mortality. Nicotine is considered to be the most likely mediator of these outcomes.
Scientists have known that children of women who smoke during pregnancy can develop hearing-related cognitive deficits. Now for the first time, researchers believe they have evidence that not only implicates nicotine as the culprit, but also shows what the substance does to the brain to cause these deficits.
It also increases the incidence of atherosclerosis, strokes, and peripheral vascular disease. Diseases of the lungs—colds, flu’s, acute bronchitis, pneumonia, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), which includes emphysema and chronic bronchitis, and lung cancer—are all much more common in smokers.
Other infections or allergies are also prevalent and rapid aging of the body and especially the skin results from the generally poor oxygenation of tissues and the other chemicals and physiological effects of regular cigarette smoking.
The modern cigarette is extremely complex. Each cigarette smoked delivers about 1 mg of nicotine.  It contains everything from sugar to liquorice, chocolate, herbs and spices. There are 8000 or more chemicals that come out when you light it and having them delivered in the right ratios is a substantial engineering feat. Other harmful chemicals found in cigarettes include: Acetone - used in nail varnish remover, Ammonia - used in dry cleaning fluids, Arsenic - used in pest control and insecticides, Benzene - used in chemical manufacture, Cadmium - used in batteries and Formaldehyde - used to preserve dead bodies.
Finally, while nicotine from a cigarette reaches the brain within 20 seconds and creates a dependency almost immediately, the good news is that nicotine is generally out of your bloodstream within three days after you stop smoking.
